Where ruby gets its red
Ruby owes its color to small amounts of chromium in its crystal, the same element that makes emerald green. It is a variety of corundum, like sapphire, and ranks 9 on the Mohs scale, so it holds up well to frequent wear.
Treatments
Rubies are commonly heated to improve their color, a stable treatment accepted across the jewelry trade. Any treatment is disclosed before purchase.
How to wear it
Red is one of the few colors strong enough to carry an outfit on its own. Wear it at the center of the neckline with plain clothing.
